MEET THE Crew

Out of all the titles and hats she has worn in schools, Marie found school counseling to be her niche. It is where she excelled and made the greatest impact. She enjoys immense gratification and pride in providing the assistance students need as they encounter issues that children and adolescents face. Helping students work through peer pressure, problems at home, goal-setting, wise decision-making, and a host of other life issues children and adolescents face has become Marie’s life’s work and purpose. Her efforts have included work outside of the schools, including feeding families, Christmas toy drives, and connecting families with agencies that can offer other services they may need.

Students always know they can count on Marie because of her approachability, proven advocacy, and diligence record. Having parents trust her with their children and coming to her for help with family issues has made her work even more rewarding.

Marie is also the author of Pretty Divorce for Women and co-author of Pretty Divorce for Teen Girls: The Ebony Butterflies Edition, which is the curriculum/program Ebony Butterflies uses in schools to help thousands of girls of color unlock their true potential, work towards their dreams, and become powerful, self-assured productive members of society.

Marie Mosley is the Executive Director of Ebony Butterflies, a nonprofit organization created by Marie and her sista girls (friends) as a way to support young girls of color as they transition through the different stages of their development. Marie has spent the last twenty-plus years as an educator in various school districts across America. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, and a Human Behavior Certification.

Marie has worked across grade levels, functioning in any capacity needed to help the students and families the schools served and to help the school run efficiently.

As an advocate for People with Disabilities, Dayniah has contributed to literature about education and disability rights. She has participated in many public events and has been a panelist in insightful discussions including “Black Women's Roundtable on Disability and Chronic Illness” with Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and “Conversation: Crip Camp, the 2020 Election, and Disability,” with Dr. Jill Biden.

Dayniah is a firm believer in using her experiences and compassion to support others in identifying and getting closer to achieving their goals.

Dayniah Manderson is a veteran educator and disability rights advocate. She received her B.S. and M.A. from New York University and for the past twenty years, she has been a classroom teacher in the New York City public school system while serving in various leadership roles. In her role as a public school teacher, Dayniah discovered that she serves her students in a myriad of ways: she is not just building their knowledge base of English Language Arts but works to open pathways for their success. In the classroom, Dayniah demonstrates her unwavering commitment to showing her students how valuable they are to this world.

Tiffany J. Young has a vision of herself as one of the most courageous, joyful, motivated, and powerful women that you will ever meet. She is passionate about serving the needs of children and their families. She is currently a Functional Family Therapist and holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work. As a Social Worker, Tiffany aims to provide extensive therapeutic support by catering to her clients’ basic and complex psychological and emotional needs.

Tiffany grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. where she saw many things in her community that haunted her for years. Living in poverty, she wondered how this would impact her life as she got older and made the decision to refuse to become a product of her environment, taking the necessary steps to get her life on the right path.

Tiffany worked as a School Safety Agent for over 18 years and during that time, she was entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the youth in the school system. Her desire to help the youth as well as their families prompted Tiffany to become a Social Worker. Working with families has made her very aware that for children or adolescents to heal, families need to heal as well. She is compassionate, sympathetic, and empathetic, and maintains spaces that are free from judgment. Her methods include evidence-based approaches relating to behavioral therapy, in-home family counseling, motivational interviewing, solution-focused, gestalt therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and narrative therapy.

As a supportive therapist, Tiffany collaborates with her team to support children in discovering who they are, helping them set goals while equipping them to become more confident and resilient.
